A Guide to Sherman Oaks
Welcome to the beautiful neighborhood I’m lucky to call my own, Sherman Oaks! Known for its tree-lined streets, family-friendly atmosphere, and cool boutiques and restaurants, Sherman Oaks offers a cozier and quieter way of living the LA life without all the hustle and bustle of the Westside. Here are a few of my favorite places in Sherman Oaks.
Restaurants
1. Anajak Thai
If you like Thai food, you have to check out Anajak! Anajak is a Michelin star restaurant in Sherman Oaks featured all over LA publications, from The Infatuation to LA Times. Be sure to make your reservations in advance because it books quickly!
2. Sweet Butter
Sweet Butter is a popular brunch spot in Sherman Oaks. You can find me here almost every weekend, rain or shine. They have great food and I just love their seasonal decor. Plus, it’s in such a cute neighborhood in Sherman Oaks if you want to take a stroll before or after brunch.
3. BLVD Steak
Introducing the Valley’s newest steak house! We’ve certainly been needing a good steakhouse in the Valley and BLVD Steak did not disappoint! If you’re looking for a trendy atmosphere with amazing food and service, you have to check out BLVD steak.
4. Casita
I’ve been here quite a few times and let me tell you, it does not feel like you’re in Sherman Oaks! This place can get LOUD! Nevertheless, they serve amazing Mexican food including a big guac and salsa tower. If you’re in your “going-out” era and don’t want to travel all the way to WeHo, I highly recommend Casita. PS - your waiter may take a shot with you LOL.
5. Sushi Note
Another Michelin star ranked restaurant! Sushi Note is a small sushi restaurant / wine bar in Sherman Oaks. This is some of the best sushi I’ve had in Los Angeles - it’s so fresh. You’ll have to make your reservations in advance, as it’s a small and in demand dining experience!
6. Casa Vega
Ok Casa Vega is a Los Angeles classic. There’s a reason a bunch of celebrities love this dark-atmosphere Mexican restaurant. Point being, no matter where you live in Los Angeles, if you haven’t yet been to Casa Vega, what are you doing??
Coffee Shops:
1. M Street Coffee
Support your local and woman owned coffee shop! M Street Coffee, located on Moorpark and Longridge (right near Fulton), is a great coffee shop to work, or meet up with a friend for a coffee date. Plus, it’s on the most beautiful palm tree lined street!
2. Alfred Coffee
Call me basic, but I love Alfred. They even made it more convenient for me by adding a location on Coldwater and Ventura! Now I don’t have to drive the extra 3 minutes to the one on Laurel haha. Known for its trendy vibe and Instagram-worthy décor, Alfred Coffee serves up expertly crafted drinks and a selection of light bites.
4. Civil Coffee
Located in the Sportsmen’s Lodge Center, Civil Coffee has some of the best espresso I’ve had. Note - I’m not an espresso connoisseur but I’m telling you, everyone raves about their drinks. Please do yourself a favor and try their specialty drink, the Vanilla Oaty. It’s an iced latte with Oatmilk and Vanilla syrup with a hint of salt and OMG, it’s amazing.
5. Ideology
Another cute coffee shop in Sherman Oaks is Ideology. Located on Ventura Blvd in that center where Ultrazone Laser Tag is (IYKYK), Ideology serves some pretty cute crafted lattes.
Things to Do
1. Regal Theater
What was once the ArcLight is now Regal Theaters at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. Great place to watch the latest movies, if you’re too impatient to wait for it to come out on streaming…
2. Shops at Sportsmen's Lodge
On the border of Sherman Oaks and Studio City lies perhaps one of the greatest additions to the Valley. With an Erewhon, Equinox, Rolling Greens, Reformation, and more, the Shops at Sportsmen’s Lodge have become the hub of the Valley, attracting everyone from LA influencers to local families. Oftentimes on the weekends, they host events like Yoga classes, and even a local maker’s market featuring small businesses from the area.
3. Westfield Fashion Square
Not going to lie, this mall has really gone downhill. There are a lot of empty spaces though, so maybe they’re having a rebrand soon? Usually I’ll head to the mall to stroll around Bloomingdales and maybe grab a treat at Sugarfina or See’s Candy, but that’s about it.
Celebrities that Live in Sherman Oaks
The Valley is no stranger to celebrity residents, and Sherman Oaks is no exception. Did you know Jennifer Aniston and the Olsen Twins were born in Sherman Oaks? Here are just a few of the celebs who currently call Sherman Oaks home.
Maya Rudolph
Sheana Shay (Sherman Oaks’ newest resident!)
